Evergreen
Evergreen.
Stands there like a knight.
White spots gently falling around him,
arms waving in the icy breeze,
pine needles shivering.
Water stops,
frozen in time on his bark,
for the air chills everything to the core.
Animals hide,
they burrow deep.
Wings flap,
fly unnoticed,
to places far, far away.
Silence returns to the forest,
not a single sound.
Life has faded,
hid deep under the forest floor.
Left only the tall pines,
to endure this winter all alone.
Evergreen,
evergreen,
needles coated in wax.
The only barrier from the chill,
that drove life from his kingdom.
He stands tall,
watching.
Temperatures drop,
A blanket of white tucks
